The Ongoing Epidemic of Low Back Pain: Positioning Physical Therapists in High Value Care

Description: This webinar will introduce Physical Therapists and Physical Therapists Assistants to the Low Back Pain Implementation Collaborative (LBPIC), involved stakeholder groups, and the role of APTA Washington. Participants will learn about Value Based Care initiatives in Washington State, the current state of value based care for low back pain, and resources available to integrate into practice. 

Objectives:
  • Understand the basic principles of value based care
  • Verbalize the value proposition for evidence based management of low back pain
  • Describe the outcomes of the Washington Health Alliance’s Low Back Pain Implementation Collaborative (LBPIC).
Speakers:
  • Emilie Jones, PT, DPT (she/her) is the Spine Service Line Administrator at UW Medicine, Vice President of APTA WA, and a practicing PT at VA Puget Sound. She has been involved in Direct to Employer bundles, value-based care, and legislative efforts.
  • Teresa Battels (she/her) is the Strategic Project Coordinator at Washington Health Alliance. Teresa is very proud to come from a family of healthcare providers and, for 25 years, she, herself, has worked in various patient-facing jobs in health care. For the last 16 years, she has been at The Polyclinic, most recently working as a Patient Experience Advocate and Project Coordinator in Musculoskeletal Medicine.

The High Value Acute Low Back Pain Pathway

Description: This webinar will discuss each component of the collaborative care pathway for acute low back pain, developed by the Washington Health Alliance Low Back Pain Implementation Collaborative (LBPIC), and explain how physical therapists can apply each to their practice. 

Objectives:
  • Describe the LBP Pathway and each component
  • Explain how physical therapists can implement the pathway and how it aligns with current best practices
  • Identify resources for implementing the pathway

Speakers: Sean Rundell, PT, DPT, PhD (he/him) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Division of Physical Therapy at the University of Washington and is the Associate Director of the Resource Core for the UW CLEAR Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders. Dr. Rundell earned his DPT degree from Duke University and his PhD in epidemiology from the University of Washington. He was a K12 Scholar in Patient-Centered Outcomes Research from 2014-2016 and completed the Kaiser Permanente Southern California Orthopaedic Physical Therapy residency in 2007.

  • Use the back pain pathway and tools as a catalyst to drive collaboration & outreach

Speakers: Scott Wick is an Executive Partner with Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy and an active member of the APTA – Private Practice and State PT Associations.  With over 20 years of experience in healthcare, his currently position as Director of Business Development focuses on vision, strategy, and leadership around growth opportunities.  Additionally, he provides leadership in strategic partnerships, innovation, contracting, brand development, operations, and strategic planning. Scott has been a guest instructor at PT departments at various universities and serves as a guest instructor on marketing with Evidence in Motion’s transitional DPT program.
